I went there to test out some .40's. I've shot the usp 40 before and thought it shot amazing but ive seen people talking about the springfield xd40...which they happened to have so i took that and i wanted to shoot a 1911 so they had a colt...it'll do. So i shot the xd40 real excited to see the results and the shit was miserable...emptied the box and moved on, ive come to realize that a .45 is definetly the way to go...nice solid feeling gun shot amazing plus the stopping power of a .45....1911 is the way to go

oh and did you know a .40 has more power than a .45, the weight of the .45 bullet does not make up for the slow speed of the bullet. the .40 actually has more energy

mr smart guy, how else do you figure it? guess what, bullet weight + velocity are combided to indicate energy measured in joules, its the standard measurment

    edit: here is the formula

multiply projectile weight in grams by the square of the muzzle velocity in metres per second (m/s), then divide the result by 2,000

Yes and? My point is energy means nothing as a means to compare defensive rounds and stopping power is a load of crap.

My favorite quote about stopping power was from a SEAL in a discovery channel special. He was going over the different guns they use and was discussing what I think was the USP 9mm. He said, "Some people might say 'Oh well that's just a 9mm it isn't going to do anything,' but when I put two shots through your heart and one through your head you aren't going to know the difference, and neither will the enemy."

i never said anything about "stopping power" only idiots use that term

and energy does mean somthing, a .22lr has ~80 J, you are saying it doesn't matter?

so a .22 has the same ability as a .40 with 6-7 times more energy?

compare it in hunting, do you use a .22 to kill a bear, no way, it doesnt have enough energy

yes, i realise you can kill with any gun with the right shot but having more energy helps with the larger animals and the less perfect shots

"Power" in a missile is a combination of velocity, mass, and surface area.

Until you get up to .50BMG, it's all secondary to shot placement.

awwwwwww jeeeeeeesus.....not this energy blather again....

lets go over this one last time.....
energy makes NO significant difference in HANDGUN ROUNDS...with the exception of MAYBE a .454 casull and above, you wont get any kinetic energy effectiveness....
select your loads for penetration/expansion and leave the energy dump for rifles mmmk?

Of course not, but I would urge people to look at the wounding effects of the round and not the energy. Worry more about the destination than how you get there if you will. If you let me cherry pick the best rounds in each caliber I'll get a .45 round that expands to almost an entire inch across while maintaining a penetration depth of over 12". That is impossible in .40, at least right now. In handguns energy doesn't kill anyone, only the wounds, so look directly at the wounding capability of the rounds. The especially ill informed will buy a round with a really really really light bullet, like say 60gr in 9mm and say its superior because of the high energy output of the round. Thats simply not the case. Don't talk about the hole puncher, talk about the hole.

Give me a gun that fits my hand properly that I can hit the center of mass quickly, repeatedly with a caliber or ammo type that can penetrate deep enough to hit vital organs or nervous system and I will be confident in carrying it for protection. I am going to put as many rounds into the target as needed to stop the aggression as quickly as possible so it's not going to matter much if it's 10 rounds of .32, .38, .357, .380, 9mm, .40 or .45. If they go deep enough and go where I aim, they will all do the job effectively.

    That's all that matters.

All handguns are under powered pieces of shit. Too bad they won't allow you to carry a rifle everywhere :(
