Holy shit is that place awesome. Never been before and happened to be in the area on my trip so I thought i'd check it out. Tested the new(ish) Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 on a 40d and liked it. I also got to compare it to the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and the Nikon 80-200 f/2.8. They had a D3 on the demo table, which I was quite impressed with, and they had any/everything imaginable.

You'll have to forgive me...some of you have or frequently go there but for anyone who hasn't, this is photography heaven! Bring your gear too because they'll let you bring it into the store...everything else has to be checked at the bag check counter though.

For you newbies...take a look at the employees who work there. Not sure why this surprised me but it did. :bigthumb:

The 80-200 was considerably heavier compared to the Tamron but only slightly heavier than the Sigma. The tamron I think is good for those who just need the f/2.8 but I definitely think it needs some sort of IS. but from $699 --> $1699 for the 70-200 VR Nikon, I don't think the VR is worth $1k.

Build quality, I think the Nikon wins hands down. Image quality I couldn't compare because I was shooting on a body with no memory card. Overall though, I think for $699, you can't go wrong with the Tamron or $100 more for the Sigma.

I visited BH a few days before New Years. The line up on Sunday morning was epic to say the least. I was quite surprised that it was all jews; hardcore ones too.
Very knowledgeable, but I did find the bag check somewhat annoying.

I told my wife the other night whenever we go to NY, one of the 'landmarks' we have to see is B&H... she said "I'll take your wallet and then you can go".

Nice. Before she takes it, stash some extra cash so you can pick up some extra toys. :bigthumb:

honestly, it was quite an experiences. the overhead bins traveling throughout the store and on different levels, the film section, the lighting section...everything is accessible for you to look at, test, etc. I think this is why they get so much business because you can test what you want before you buy it.

well, until they tell you to stop with the flashes! I learned that the Impact strobes fire when you adjust the strength! ;)
