Thanks everyone...I can't wait to get out and use it today.

I used my Nikon D70s for all of them.

I actually live out on Long Island (Copiague, by Amityville) but I decided to take the train in and pick it up instead of waiting for shipping. We went downtown to a gallery so thats why we were walking the PATH also.

The 85mm 1.4 version is buttery smooth, but too bad it goes for 950 bucks used. They refer to that lens as the "Cream machine". :wackit:

    it is a nice lens.

it doesn't hurt to have one even if you have an 85mm f/1.4 because of the size

i want to try the 85 f/1.4 just to see if i'm missing anything. i honestly don't think i'd ever buy once since i don't use my 85 f/1.8 much because of my 70-200. even if i did use my f/1.8 all the time, it probably wouldnt be worth it to get the f/1.4.

unless it produced some super clean images..

I really wonder what the hype over the f/1.4 version is all about!

how did you get the subjects focused so well and everything else blurred? is it mainly because of the lens (low f speed) or the way you shot it (ISO, etc)? sorry im a newb and wanna learn that shit.

On these shots it was the f-stop. I shot the two first ones at f/1.8 and the last one I shot at f/7.1 but since I shot at a slow shutter speed the car moving in front of her looked blurred also. ISO, I tend to leave at 200 during the day and at night if I don't have a tripod and I wanna get the shot I'll raise it accordingly........but I own a Nikon after all so I can't raise it TOO much :mamoru:

I've gotten kicked out of so many places for no good reason. One time I was shooting at the strip by the Triboro bridge like a 1/2 mile away from the base of the bridge with my 18-70 and the cops wrote my name down and the names of the people I was with...like I could have gotten ANYTHING at that distance. Subways are impossible, bridges are illegal though I dont know how much they enforce. I remember another time I got shooed away for taking a picture of the Citibank building in LIC. NY is a bitch to shoot sometimes.

    none yo'

These pics show exactly why I held off buying this lens in favor of saving up for the 85mm 1.4 instead. As sharp as it is from f/4 and up, the bokeh leaves much to be desired. But hey, if you're happy with it, more power to you.

    Aperture f/1.4 - f/4: 85mm/1.4 > 85mm/1.8
    Aperture f4 - f/22: 85mm/1.8 > 85mm/1.4
Since this would be mainly a portrait lens for my use, 85/1.4>>>85/1.8 to me. :o
