Tried a Sepia tint for effect...

On the walk to the trestle:

    Almost there:

It was built in 1915 and trains use it daily.

    But it's getting pretty rickedy.

    Looking back from the trestle.

Laid the camera on a rail
    [IMG]

    Hanging over the side
    [IMG]

This thing has fascinated me since I was a kid, and my best friend's gf lived next to it most of her life.

I'm scared of heights but ventured out to the safety platform....

    View from near the platform:

Don't look too safe anymore! :o
    [IMG]

Saw 2 buckets in the weeds....

    Full of old railway spikes!!!

Some of these rails are in pretty bad shape, considering they're still in use.

:wavey: Me too, that's why I went there.
The bridge was actually creaking while I walked to the middle. Spooky. Must rattle like a sonofabitch when the freight trains cross it.

those were great. would have been better if you actually got one with a train crossing it. i love trains and tracks (and b&w would probably look better!)

I live 25 minutes away from it, and only 2 trains cross it in any given day....my timing would have to be crucial! :wtc: But thanks for the comments!

  11. Interesting subject compared to your others.

    Good job man. Few tips

    1. You gotta watch out because I saw you and your friends shadows a few times, and the shadow from your camera when you put it on the rail.

    2. When you did a side view of the bridge from the top I bet if you would have used some flash it would have lit up the bridge so we could see some of that beautiful rickidy wood insted of black, but the pics still look

Also I don't know if the pics are alittle dark or it's just my monitor :dunno:

I never thought of the flash for the side shot, but the pics are a tad dark. I was wearing polarized sunglasses (not doing that again during photography) and I thought the pics were ok.

    Thanks!!

  13. thanks for sharing the  pics of nova scotia :bigthumb:

Thanks for the comments, and you are welcome!

I'm thinking of doing the Cabot Trail on Sunday. If I do, i'll take a shitload of pics of the beauty and post em here.

  15. Find out what nova scotia is known for and take some pics ftw.

I'm pretty sure it will be an entertaining and educational subject for us americans who don't know much about other countries. :bigthumb:

I love the pictures, but the ones of the drums are a little distracting.

    Awsome.

My favorite is the close-up one (DSC02846.jpg).

My area has a lot of stuff like that. You just gave me some inspiration:)

I thought it was cool to find 2 buckets of spikes. They were added for coolness, not because of photographic content.

holy shit those rails are in bad shape...

I am suprised they havent been forced to replace them.

I thought ours at work was bad, but those have had MANY trains over them to flatten the railhead like that.

Yeah, 1965 and 1969 are the years cast into the sides of the rails. I know I'm not going to be near that trestle when a train is crossing it! :noes:

Well, it is not nessisarily dangerous....

The rails just have flat rail heads now, and that causes uneven wear on the wheels.

I doubt a train would derail on it though, since the steel is being pushed out to the field side of the rail, and not the flange side.
