That's a very nice gun and scope, it should serve you well, I have a Rem. 700 in .270 with a Leuopold Vari X-II 3-9x40 and I love it.

I left it with them to put the scope on and bore sight it. Can't wait to run a few hundred rounds through it :o I wonder if there's a gun range around with lights. :big grin:

Any certain way I should go about breaking it in?

You can boresight a bolt action rifle yourself, just put the gun in something solid (a gun vise is nice but sandbags work fine), remove the bolt, look through the barrel, and line it up with something (I usually use a knot on a post or tree) about 25yds aways. Next line the scope up with the same object and fire the gun at 25yds, adjust, then shoot for 100.

It was all free and the place is only a few minutes from work.

    Plus!!
I was looking at the receipt and noticed that what I wrote above was not what I was looking at before the guy rung up my stuff. I had decided on the 4.5-14x50 Leupold. So I called him earlier and had him put that scope with the gun before they installed the wrong one. Now I get to go in tomorrow and pay another $200 :uh:
So it actually payed off letting them do the install and bore sighting:bigthumb:

But thanks for the info, I'm sure I'll get a chance to try that someday.

I hope you have better luck with it than the guy I know did with his. Actually now that I think about it I know two people that hate their VX-III 4.5-14s (my cousin's husband doesnt like his either). :hsugh:

If I don't like it I'm sure I can get more than $200 for a ~$700 scope :mamoru:

That's the real advantage to Leupold, people see the name and will pay out the ass for a used one. Alot of used ones go on Ebay for more than dealer cost.

Well I ended up not upgradinig to the VXIII - 4.5-14x50. apparently the message never got to the gunsmith to change. Oh well, I spent the extra money on a semi decent case and will stock up on cleaning suppies and ammo.

I just bought a few boxes of the Remington Core-Lokts 150gr. for break in. Will end up shooting something 165+ when I start really sighting it in.

I used a friend's just like that a little over a week ago to bag a doe so we'd have meat for a bow hunting trip :bigthumb: Pretty much what made me decide on the 700 and leupold.

Leupold Mark 4? Sportsmans Guide?

SWFA usually has some of the best prices you'll find.

SWFA also has good customer service. I'll pay a little more to know that if I have a problem it will be taken care of. That's why you buy good gear from good people.

That probably has something to do with the way Sportsmans Guide operates, being that they deal more in closeouts and overstocks. I like Sportsmans Guide though, you can usually find a few good deals, depending on what you want.

What I find odd is I bought a Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 from SWFA back in august and it was $325. I was looking the other day because my friend wants a 6-24 and the scope I bought is $75 higher than it was before  Just found that odd.
