Some of my friends and I went out to try some candid "strobe on a stick" in Old Vegas. I wanted to practice more with the Nikon Advanced wireless system.

    Setup...
SB800 with Feisol CF monopod with Umbrella bracket and 43"shoot thru umbrella
Fired off with the onboard commander.

That looks like fun. How do you think the CLS works when using umbrellas off camera? I haven't tried using CLS for that yet, just cybersyncs in manual.

Lighting is a little hot in 4 but good in the rest.

I think I see my old 24-70 in there :noes:

It works really well. I was using the pop up commander from easily 5-6 feet away with the umbrella in all sorts of angles and elevation and it was firing everytime. As long as you are aware of where the sensor is, you should be fine.

Yeah Brent was using your old 24-70 all night. I was using a 50 1.8. Its so funny, when i want to push my creativity i use the cheapest lens in my bag the $90 prime. I have thousands of dollars in other lenses, but i feel sometimes they give me too much freedom.

Yeah #4 is a little hot but kinda like it, in a way. I tried to balance the strobe light as much as i could with the ambient to make it feel almost natural.

but it looks like you never got out of your comfort zone.
I guess I was expecting something more candid coming from a street project?

I've tried doing this too but without a partner. Yup me walking around with a monopod with umbrella and camera. Instead people were scared and running away.

Yeah, do it alone, isn't so crowd gathering.

Yeah im having a hard time trying to really push myself and get out there out of my comfort zone. Sort of why ive been trying to do this every week. im gonna keep trying. A couple weeks prior i was doing more of a street photography things. Honestly only have one image i felt was worth keeping, and it was this.

nex week im gonna try to just use the 70-200 and have it taped at 135mm. see how i fare then
