Yep, minding my own business headed to the grocery store ... sidetracked by a gunshow.

Came home with an ammo can full of .223, a Rock River stripped lower and parts kit:

There's going to be another evil black rifle in the house shortly :noes:

I plan on a 20" or 24" full float varminter in 6.8 Rem SPC with a MagPul precision stock

well, I'm not actually planning on varmint hunting with it ... just want something in that style and I want something with more range and accuracy than .223. Since I really like the feel/design/etc of the AR, then something with a full-float heavy barrel in a slightly larger caliber is a good compromise.

Since it's still a work in progress and I haven't purchased the upper, I'm open to suggestions ...

i was going to do something similar w/ a WOA varmint upper instead, but i don't have enough $$ to justify blowing 800 on an AR i would use 3-4 times a year

I'd avoid 6.8 like the plague, it's near impossible to get and isn't exactly cheap.

I'd really like to build one (for the reasons I mentioned) but this thought has been in my mind as well ... if the military doesn't pick up the 6.8 like alot of people are hoping, then it will get more and more expensive since it will be one of those 'off-caliber' rounds. That would suck :ugh:

who says 6.8 is more accurate? You'll get significantly better/cheaper ammo with a .223; I'd take your own advice and wait to see if it takes off or not.
