and all I got was this broken UV filter.

This is the second time a UV filter has saved a lens. 5d/85 1.8 took a tumble off my tripod.

This is why filters are >*

Spend the $20 for a plain UV if nothing else right?

I learned the hard way when I was in high school and destroyed a Soligor prime 200 tele/Macro that I use on my old skool minolta....I cried.

only time i dropped my camera was back in highschool in the days of film and i was jogging with my dog and the strap came undone. filter saved the glass but the lens had to be taken for repairs bc the zoom was sticky. could have been much worse

I've never bought a lens without buying a filter in the same order.

if it saved your lens

even your shittiest photos are top quality! I like the idea of putting the lens on the flash.

    Being :soondubu: > tits

    :werd:

Same thing happened to my 16-35. It worked fine for a while after the drop, but locked up on me during a wedding :noes:

I ended up buying UV's for all my lenses after realizing what a bitch it was to take off the lens caps.

    Thanks

You're a lucky bastard. You're right, it probably would have survived even without the filter. I'm really surprised how the 5d has held up to all these drops. This is the 3rd time  :ibbutterfingers:

    :noes:

 Yeah, it accentuates the cracks.

 Yeah man, damn kids are getting tired of me shooting them.

I used the money I saved to buy an AV. :greddy:

it is one more piece of glass that light has to travel through but im sure 99% of the people out there can't tell the difference in most cases.
