This month marked the opening of my equipment rental business. It has been a long road getting to this point, and even though i'm used to the idea of the business its still pretty frightening (especially in this economy). Regardless, other than craigslist, this is the first place I will be advertising. I'm hoping to help out a few OTAP'ers with some cheap rentals (coupon code: otapmember = 40% off) but I also need your feedback. There are probably a lot of lingering issues that need to be ironed out, so I would rather fix them with my "peers".

    anyhow, heres some cliff notes:

    SITE: http://www.lensloaners.com
    COUPON: otapmember (40% off)

    CC welcome :)

edit: also as a heads up the 100 macro will be back today by 5.

If I rent today, can I have my stuff at my door at 18032 by Friday 3pm??

I was looking to rent all week and just decided no, but 40% off, well, I would have to give that a go

Honestly I can't guarantee that. I think you'd have to over night it. I can ship it out in the next hour but even 2 day air only shows up by the end of the 2nd business day, not 3pm.

Website looks nice. Rates look competitive and return shipping is nice. This gives me an excuse to rent the 100-400L, just need a little better weather than what we've had the last couple weeks.

I will eventually. Not at the moment, but I know I purchase it when I rent lenses so it's definitely on the todo list.

but you could ship it to the hotel and I would receive when I arrive? Then I can get it like saturday or sunday and mail it back from there as well.

    where is the insurance?

I am thinking of getting the 17-40. I like teh 16-35 or 24-70 but I think they are going to be too big. but at the prices you have, I would definately rent first. The site looks great

That could work. No insurance on the rental, but the shipment is insured.

The 24-70 is a beast, but the 24-105 is manageable.

    And thank you :)

    Nice bookmarked your site

Prices are very good wish you posted this a few weeks back I paid about $65/wk to rent a 200mm 2.8. That coupon gives me an excuse to rent the 100-400 when the weather gets nicer. You should probably offer insurance too to cover your ass.

Just curious, how many of each lens are you stocking? How'd you decide to try to get into this business?

1-4 depending on popularity. All of the "profit" just goes back into buying more inventory.

My friend and I talked each other into it about a year and a half ago. As long as you've got an idea and never bother to consider the enormously high failure rate of start up businesses, you'll be fine!
