Three more Pocket Wizards plus caddies are finding their way to the jcolman household. There, they will be joined by a new mac pro, 16GB of ram, a couple of TB HD's and new monitor.

    It's been an expensive week.

For video, I undertand. But wtf do you do in LR and PS that requires that much processing power? I'm all for the the purchase, but don't say you you need it.

I've been doing some research on how to make PS and LR run much faster on a Mac Pro. 16gb of ram is suggested along with partitioning the drives.

I shoot with three full frame cameras and the files are fricking huge. I want to speed up my workflow.

Jcolman just realizes that he's getting old... and the longer he sits in front of a spinning hour glass the more of his life ticks away...

8gb should be enough to not even need a scratch disk for PS. 16 seems over kill, but more power to ya.

I think you might be doing something different than this guy maybe? Maybe not, but the only way I could see that being needed in PS is when dong huge, multi-layered PSD renderings. Like I said, I'm all for the purchase, I just think it's a overkill. I would love to have that when doing video, though.

I'll be pissed if, after buying all this shit, setting it up, transferring files and testing the system to find out that it only saves me a few seconds here and there.

I'm hoping for some substantial time savings.

You're probably right in that it's overkill but 16GB of memory is only about $500. I may, at some point in the future, start editing video on the machine so I minus whale set it up right. :x:

    HP w2338 23".

I picked up the computer and monitor today. I also just ordered 16gb of memory ($640) and a 1TB sata HD ($143)

The total so far comes to $3233.00. Hopefully I'll be able to sell the 24"imac w/4GB of memory that I'm currently using for about $1300. :x:
