How do you know if the ones you have are bad, or are they a new batch, certain numbers, etc?

I actually just ordered that same flashlight this morning... what a coincidence to see this thread now :eek3:

I can't wait to get mine in and see how it performs. Depending on how much I like it, I'm also debating a FLuPIC board upgrade. I guess we'll have to wait and see. :x:

It's a replacement circuit board for the one in the light that adds a whole crap load of customizeable features such as selectable high intensity beam, low intensity beam, custom intensity beam anywhere in between off-highest brightness the LED is capable of, SOS beam (flashes morse code SOS with the light), strobe effect with selectable brightness and timing (for disorienting intruders or whatnot), etc... Pretty much makes the light as versatile as it can be, and is controlled all from the light's single clickie button.

But like I said... I want to see how much I like it stock first. :bigthumb:

I ordered some of those same "titanium" brand batteries that sa7an has in his pics. I have heard nothing but good reviews and comments about them from review boards, forums, users, etc.. and know of no explosions, corrosions, meltdowns, flashlight damages, or anything of the like.

Notice how all the failures were on multiple cell lights? With the Q3 you'll be fine. What usually is the cause is a combination of cells that aren't of the same charge state, yes even new cells aren't always 100% and then running the light past where you should turn it off and replace the cells. It's usually the weak cell runs down then gets back charged from the other cell. This causes the catostrophic failures mentioned. There's a HUGE thread on CPF by a guy who's been recording and making his batteries fail in a similar manor for testing.

BTW, I'm only using SF batteries anymore, but then I really don't go thru many.

I thionk they sell packaged cr123's according to how many you need to operate your flashlight. The tolerances and voltages are all matched to make sure your batteries dont splode like that

huh? If they did this then no one would have any failures. Even SF cells are just sold by the box of 12. Batterystation is now testing ALL cells before shipping and only shipping those that test 100%.

    Things to remember:
Only buy quality cells for multiple cell lights
Don't run your cells past the point they dim noticably.
Don't mix new and used cells.

I think you misunderstodd what rumple was saying. Not ALL of the batteries you buy are like this, but you CAN purchase batteries in sets like this that have been produced/packaged for this very reason. For example:

    http://www.amondotech.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=946

Here's a set of titanium brand antteries for a 2 cell light that are sold as a package to prevent such battery issues.

I mean that they package the cells to make one long cell. They supposedly dont have any differences between them

You thinking the Surefire battery "packs"? From what I understand they're like that to include extra shock protection between the individual cells.

As to the Ammondotech thing, that seems like they're covering their asses after people having issues with their cells before. Where as BS just checks ALL cells, whether for one cell or multi cell lights.

i got the same light (except mine's od green) in the mail yestarday. I've since started carrying it everywhere. It's so small and so bright i love having it when i walk the dog at night. I'm actually seeing spots right now from stupidly shining it in my eyes a few minutes ago.
