I got all the stats to be able to qualify to try out for air force combat control and went to the gym to see if i could make the minimums now...i did the mile and a half in 1130 (though it was hard) i can do the pushups and situps...and the pullups

but i went in the pool and man.....i cant swim for shit anymore...its not even my form so much (even though thats lacking too) but i cant seem to breathe for shit

i'm going in as a linguist but i would loooooove to do cct. I was planning on trying out for it after my first 3 years but is the whole swimming thing something i can get better at if i do it alot or am i just screwed? :hs:

I haven't swam since I was back in high school 5 years ago and since then I've put on some muscle. I was suprised at how fast I could sink.

    ROFL!
Fill a dive mask up with water, put it on your face, and then repeat what you did at the gym. If you think you can't do that, then don't bother with CC. CC is not for me. My neighbor was a career MSgt Combat Controller, this guy ran around the flight line a couple of times before going to work. Work consisted of running around the CCs -in-training while they were doing a formation run around... you guessed it, the flight line. He was by far, hardcore. Look into PJs too, unless you like Air Traffic Control.

i realize i'm not in good enough shape right now...but im in decent shape and in 3 years i think i could def do it (so long as i can get better at swimming)

i would like to do pj too but the swimming requirements are even harder for them :hs:

Good luck, and remember, if you can make through Indoc, then you can make it through.

CCT doesn't do Indoc anymore. They do a 2 week, soon to be 4 week, orientation course. The new CCT pipeline is more of a slow burn to weed out people instead of an initial shock like the PJ's.

The CCT PAST for crosstrainee's is the same as the PJ PAST.

Really?...my recruiter told me he tried out for PJ and the difference was they had to swim a lap totally underwater ...which he said knocked out a good 25% of the people that were trying out

well at any rate i still think i would rather do combat control since i love all things that have to do with airplanes :dunno:

Just out of curiosity why are you going in as a linguist? Why not ATC then cross train? Going that route shrinks your total time in the training pipeline for CCT.

... I'm ATC and play with the idea of crosstraining every couple months....

CC is open to anyone who gets above a 47 on the asvab, but most people probably couldnt even pass the PAST

also ...i took linguist because it sounded kinda cool, i get to go to monterey for a year and also because the bonus payed off all my student loans + extra :o

i would suggest that if you're looking for a career in special operations, you remove the word "minimum" from your vocabulary right now

It's easy to improve your run time, my 1.5 mile time went from ~15:00 to under 10:30 in a matter of mabye a month or two just by running 3x per week.

thats just to be able to get into the training

to graduate you have to run 3 miles in under 22:00 + pushups, situps, pullups, and i believe a 2000m swim in under 75 minutes

I dunno the fail rate for CC, but the success rate for PJs is 1 in the entire class will make it to be a PJ.
