This happens in almost evey game I play. Every 1.5 seconds the screen will freeze for a few milliseconds. It's not that noticeable but it's really annoying. Its like a glitch that happens at regular time intervals. Anyone know what might be causing this?

    AMD Athlon XP 2200
    512 MB DDR 3200
    Ati Radeon 9600 pro 128mb

    Which game(s)?
Does it happen on all games or just some?
Does it happen when you're playing online or solo or both?
Do you have anything running in the background?
    Have you checked for viruses?
    Have you checked for spyware?
Have you updated to the latest patches for the game(s)?

You see the more details you give, the easier you can get an answer and for some of these answered on your own can solve the problem on it's own.

I have only seen it happen in FPS's because you can notice it when your just walking aound. It happens in Unreal tournament, America's army, and Painkiller. It happens online and offline. I have tried with nothing running in the background and it still happens. I have checked for viruses using norton, I have checked for spyware using spybot search and destroy. Games are updated. I think a format might be in order if I can't fix this soon.

Could be a hard drive accessing problem... Have you checked your internet history, temp files, and cookies? Thousands of tiny files require more time to find than a few big ones and no tiny ones. Add the tiny ones with the big ones, access time increases for both of them.

I've seen more that a few PC's lose their processing speed due to these little demons. At work with a 2GHz processor, login time shouldn't be more than about a minute. But with 20 or so people using it to surf the internet, each storing temp files, cookies, and browsing histories in their profiles, that time has increased to 5-10 minutes. Once all those were deleted, the times go back down again.

I don't know if that is the problem, but it's something to try before you re-format and lose everything.

You'd be surprised what a defrag can clean up....even a crapy Windows defrag, I prefer Norton's Speed Disk faster and more effective
