I'm 6 foot 180 lbs. I have some decent muscle on me covered with a small layer of chubbiness.

For some reason my bench press is super weak (like a 160 max). When I bench, i feel it more in my delts then any other muscle and when i grip the bar wider then my shoulder length it still does it. Also when i bench my right lat starts hurting really bad. Its like a sharp muscular pain that is next to my spine on my right lat area. I think my technique is fine because my feet are on the ground and my back is flat on the bench itself.

This is really annoying because i can't even bench my own body weight on the bench but when i use dumbells i can easily use 65+ lbs on each side.

if it's right next to your spine then it's probably not your lat

i get the same pain man. i started getting it every time I benched so I asked a personal trainer what was going on. he said that my back, mid to lower, was rather weak and that my body was trying to use those muscles to lift all the weight. he said that i should do some dumb bell flys and presses on one of those aerobic balls for about 2 weeks. then work it into my daily routine for another two weeks and then try the reg bench.

it fuckin worked, he also said that i should do more hamstring lifts to really harden up the lower back.

i did that ball for 3 weeks, did more squats and reverse leg curls, and i don't feel the pain anymore. i can tell that i can have total isolation control over my chest now too when i bench.
