how do you choose a good one? how are they supposed to fit?
what do you look for when you choose a weightlifting belt?

any suggestions? gold's gym, world gym, valeo, any feedback for specific brands?

    thanks!

Depends on what you use the belt for. If you wear it loose to train pushing your abs out then it doesn't hinder your posterior chain at all.

they're actually bad for your back during deadlifts and stuff? (I'm talking regular use, not just max attempts)

i wear one for all squats / deadlifts and I've had amazing development in my lower back and abs.

i was never able to flex my "core" until now either.

God damnit! I was measuing to size myself and I broke my damn myotape. UGH! Anyways which one should I buy http://www.cardillousa.com/weight-belts/standard-line.html ?? Whats the diff between 4in tapered 6in tapered and 4in all around? Also should I wait till i finish cutting and buy one then? I have another 20 or so lbs to go.

so they're basically for people who don't/can't squeeze their stomache muscles on squats and stuff, right? because i hear doing that will prevent injury if done correctly

I have never used a belt. Then again I don't squat 500lbs yet. Thats what I have core work for.

So belts = good for max attemtps and 3RM's? If so, I'll be ordering a cardillo.
