China's Le Qiu strains to lift 140 kgs (309 lbs) to win the gold medal in the snatch modality of the men's 62 kgs (137 lbs) category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006. Qiu also won the gold medals in the clean and jerk modality, lifting 168 kgs (370 lbs) and in the overall with 308 kgs (679 lbs).

yeah these guys (and girls) are amazing

but beware, the captions below many of the pics are just wrong so you have to examine the picture to make sure the information they provide along with it is correct, especially in regard to the amount of weight lifted

I think christophers showed some pics of the chinese lifters training about 3 months back and we predicted they would dominate at the olympics. It looks like they are so far in the light weight divisions.

I don't think China has anyone that's good in the heavy weight mens division though. Is that right?

yeah they haven't been especially competitive above 77 kg if i remember correctly, however, apparently they have a 105 kg lifter that has snatched 198 kg, so we'll see what happens

the shorter and stockier you are the better at weightlifting youre going to be (chinese). add to that their communist training program and youre all set. looks like things get good tomorrow.

There are short people everywhere, I think it's more their training from a young age. China is hardcore about gold medals and bringing honor to their country.

    Some more highlights

Lu Yong snatched 175 and jerked 210 at 85 at the 2005 World Champs to take silver. He was 19 years old.

Shi Zhiyong gets driven into a full squat in the jerk. He lost this one in front.

Many Chinese lifters can overhead squat (from the bottom position) more than they can front squat.

She can clean and jerk over 400 lbs, arguably the strongest woman in the world :eek3:

    Holy back development

"Many Chinese lifters can overhead squat (from the bottom position) more than they can front squat"

This shouldn't be all that surprising. The front squat prevents proper movement in the hips and shoulders. The best way to demonstrate this is watch someone who squat jerks. They struggle like hell to get up with the bar racked, and then rise again effortlessly with the bar overhead in the jerk.

ok right that is a factor but how does that negate my point? the shorter you are the less you have to move the bar, the stockier you can be at a given weight class etc etc. you can take a person thats 6'5 and train them from birth and they would get buried.

this is a pretty shitty update but I can't find anywhere that keeps up to the minute results, it tells you who won anyway

and those fucking dominicans can't keep their website updated, the results section has been "Under Construccion" for weeks.

rezazadeh won again, for the 10th time, pretty weaksauce worlds for the heavier weight class, rezazadeh won with 20 kilos less than his best on the C&J alone, the 105's were pretty disappointing too, meh
