What are some good lifts to learn? Summer is coming up and I'm going to be playing a bunch of soccer, football, basketball etc. Looking to become more explosive...I gather Olympic lifts are the way to go?

I'm currently on the 5x5 actually and I do squats and deads..I will look at the lifts mentioned and look in to plyometrics.

the olympic lifts definitely. also i think lowering body fat (to an extent) will help if you're carrying around some.

Haven't read it. I do like Alwyn's material though. But it shouldn't be $30? It's $17 on amazon.

When I played Football/Rugby the lifts/exercies that helped me the most with explosiveness and overall athleticism were:

    Squats
    Deads
    Powercleans
    Box jumps
    Jump rope

The olympic lifts are all about explosive power and technique, which I would think would translate over into your performance on the field more than any other type of strength consitioning.
