I wonder how much weight training is useful if your goal is losing the fat. I want to look smaller and I am afraid using weights even makes me even bigger. I personally like using weights more than cardio, But I don't know how much weight should I use and even if i should do it or not.

unless you have a hairy face, a deep voice, and two small growths in your crotchular region, you aren't going to bulk up from lifting weights.

hmm, that is not the best answer! I am not afraid I am gonna look like men! I am afraid I don't lose fat as much as needed while gaining more muscle.

why not? if you are burning the same amount of calories what makes you think you wont lose fat the same?

hmm, I heard that cardio burns more calories in time unit than weights. But if you do weight training your muscles will burn more calories through the day. I have no experience about it tho.

more lean body mass means you burn more calories/day. So if you do strictly cardio, you will lose fat and muscle thus reducing your BMR (maintenance calories) and you will have to eat less and less or do more and more cardio as each day passes. Not to mention, when you reach your goal you will have virtually no tone to your body.

My advice is to develop an aerobic routine which utilizes light weights to work individual muscle groups, yet also burns calories. I see girls doing routines like this all the time at my gym, consult a PT if you dont know where to start. Even just pushing through the nautilus circuit every other day would be better than nothing

If you can maintain some muscle while losing fat, you will look much better when you reach your goal.

Thanks for your helpful comment. Now the question is What happens if I use heavier weights?losing fat pace gets slower and gaining muscles faster?

Exceed the amount of energy you input from food via activity = weight loss.

No, if you maintain a calorie deficit, you will not gain muscle, the best you can typically hope for is to maintain the muscle you have currently, regardless of weight you lift. So feel free to push yourself while lifting, it will only benefit your fat loss, and ultimately you will look much better when you reach your goal weight.

You're probably going to be shooting for endurance training, meaning using lighter weights with more repititions.

I do endurance training, but my trainer says that I should try to challenge myself and up the weights, because the heavier the weights, the more calories burned.
