I'm a complete lifting n00b..I weight 170 lbs and my goal is reaching 185. So I did the natural n00b thing and picked up some weight gainer.

Now my friend who's been lifting for quite sometimes says that even with eating properly and with lifting daily, I will still become fat from it. Mind you, he's never tried weight gainer, he's just speaking purely from the carbs.

Will I really just fatten up instead of gain muscle? I have a very fast metabolism and have never been fat my entire life. Am I really gonna have a pot belly by the end of the month?

    i'll give you some figures

    1490 calories
    3g total fat
    total carbs 320 g
    carbs from sugar 101g

now I don't know much about this stuff. but the carbs is only 12% of the daily diet, and the sugar is only a fraction of that.

Is that really that much? Like I said, I'm clueless here.

Most weight gainers are just loaded with sugar, I think N-Large 2 is the only decent one that isnt packed with sugar.

Actually... if you calculate that, it is nearly ALL carbs, and I'm guesing not great ones.

Carbs = 4 calories per gram

so total calories from carbs: 1260
    totals cals from sugar: 404

That's a bit high... do what other said, mix your own bulking shakes with, they will be better for you because you will be using better ingredients, it will be easier to hit your protein goals if you are throwing Whey in the mix, and it will probably be cheaper and taste better than that weight gainer.

I don't know how you guys blend the oats in a way where they don't turn out chunky :dunno: I want a smooth shake.

Blend the oats up first before you put anything else in. It makes them into a powder

if ur thin, dont worry about putting on fat. when i bulk (4500-5000 cals) my macronutrient ratios are 70:20:10. and even on maintenance, 70% of my cals still come from carbs.

  12. how is the cytosport weight gainer? i have no use for weight gainer but i was just curious if it tasted like the muscle milk flavors? :dunno:

I have used Nlarge2 for the past two months - I went from 165lbs to 176 and my waist is still the same. I do a 5 day split with cardo on MWF. I'll post some progress pics soon...

Weight gainers should be a absolute last resort. Focus on calorie dense quality foods instead.

If you're just starting you should be able to put on 15lbs no problem from noob gains. Just make sure you eat enough food
