Why do they have so many lighter weight classes and such a big jump from 205 to 265? I'd really like to see a 220 or even 240 weight class.

There is barely enough top level talent from 206 to 265. Putting another division in there would create 2 watered down divisions instead of just one.

I agree, I mean Couture did gain 5 pounds and win the Heavyweight championship. Still, I think it might attract more fighters who are cutting down to 205 from 225

But you forget that there are plenty of guys fighting at 205 that are normally 220-230 lbs.

right.... its called cutting, you cut weight before a fight for the weigh in, so you are bigger/stronger on the day of the fight....

almost all of those guys that walk around at 220-230 would cut anyways for competitive reasons.

those guys will always cut for the size advantage.

im sure heavier classes will appear when the talent and marketability is there, but right now isnt the time.

i think it's 225 to 265 with a 2lb weight differential on both sides for non title fights or something like that

i think it's good because it encourages lighter fighters e.g. 230's to cut down to 205 and the heavier fighters to stay in the division. So even though a fighter might be 230 he'd probably want to fight at 205, so the division is basically a bunch of 240's, 250's and rarely 260's. Bigger guys than that which cut to 265 are usually compromising some athletic ability for their size.

pretty sure its 206 - 265, which makes perfect sense since most states will not allow two people to fight if there is a 60lb weight differential.
