I have really thick hair. For the past 7 years I've had it kinda short, spikey/messy. I've been done with the short look and I've let it grow out.

Since it's thick, it gets really puffy and big if I let it dry with nothing in it. Only thing I've found to weigh it down is gel. I don't mind the gel'd look, but I'm looking for something different. I've tried many other products, but most just leave my hair greasy since have to use so much. I've also tried blow drying-- it tames it a little, but it still ends up puffy.

    Any recommendations?

My hair is thick to. Just have your stylist to thin it, and use som paste and hair spary. You don't want your hair to look greasy. You are not a 90s high school kid. As far as product goes, Sebastian Crude Clay > *

after getting out of the shower I let a towel rest on my head and let it dry for it bit. def takes out the puffiness and makes it easier to style with wax

I have the exact same problem with a insane head of thick ass hair. My stylist recommended not shampooing everyday because it dries out your hair and to let some natural grease build up. Works great; essentially I can style my hair now with no product if it has been a couple days since I've shampooed and looks great.

I've never tried Gatsby but need to because it is so well recommended. However, I have been using TIGI Bed Head Manipulator. I have stupid ass thick hair that's not super long but longer, and it works well for this. I tend to put in a tiny bit when my hair is wet and then let it dry. When it dries, once in a while it'll be a bit too firm so I just take my then damp towel and wipe it around a bit and it's all good.

But it gives you the perfect matte and moldable but still holding firm. If you go to a salon they will probably have it and might let you try a bit.
