Took a week off ... thought i was gonna loose some strength but ended up benching 195 for 4 reps on my 3rd set. My goal was to get to 200 by May and it wasnt looking like it was gonna happen. I was stuck at 185 for a while. The week off must have helped. Pretty pumped about it

probably in the 9 months (how long ive been working out), i have probably only taken a whole week off at a time twice. Once from an injury and the other because the school gym was closed for a week.

if i benched 5 lbs away from my goal for 4 reps i'd probably throw on at least 2 five lb plates and go for it...

if you can do 195x4 i bet you can do at least 205x1 if not more...

I could have sworn while reading supertraining on the shitter, I read that maximal strength increases a fair amount (~10%) after a week of rest, then declines to around 90% loss after 3 months :dunno:

the 10% increase is true in my case. I havent had anything over 2 weeks off since I started lifting over 3 years ago, so I don't know what its like after 3 months

it's going to depend on what you've been doing leading up to the time off

Is it safe to say that a week off will only be benificial while bulking? I'm guessing there could be some muscle loss staying in a deficit all week cutting.

It depends whether your strength is comming from hypertrophy or nueral efficiency
