What do you guys use for testing your php sites? I hate having to work live off of the web server because uploading everything for a little change I make gets old. I would like to work locally but does that mean I need to install apache and php and mysql and all that shit? or is there an easier way?

I just use FTP primarily, didn't seem like much of a hassle. Or if you have full access to the webserver, use remote desktop and do the developing on the server itself.

I do my general dev work locally. Run something like WAMP-Server if you want it uber-easy. Then I upload RCs to the server for testing. Then I mv the files to the public wwwroot thru ssh for public deployment.

Depends what your remote server is running. Developing on Windows for a Linux server may be a little tricky. Fortunately, virtual machines are free these days.

blasphemy. I do all my development on win boxes, yet my production webserver is a *nix box.
