i've been doing combat hapkido now for about 2 month and haven't had the cash to go out to buy the proper attire. The majority of people in the class have your usual martial art pants, belt and top. When i show up to class i usually wear shorts and t-shirt. Do you conisder this bad martial art etiquette? I feel like a douche bag wearing shorts but have been strapped for cash.

You say the majority wear the proper attire, but what do the rest wear? Similar to what you wear? Maybe track pants or sweatpants would be better but if you don't have the uniform I don't see why shorts would be a problem. Then again the only uniform I wear is my BJJ gi, which is part of the art (grabbing the gi). I don't know how vital your uniform is to your training.

Personally, I say train in what you fight in. Since I train for street I prefer to train in something similar to what I normally wear. If it works for you and they don't seem to care, stick with that.
