myself and a couple other guys on here use this

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8537

i LOVE it. its the brightest, longest throwing handheld ive ever owned. i use a low profile scope mount to mount it to the bottom of my hand guard. i bought an extra one recently to use around the house and in my bob.

    .

I have a Streamlight PolyTac mounted on my AR carbine. The only thing to keep in mind with these is that the body is 7/8" diameter instead of the standard 1". There are a few mounts available for this size or you will have to find something to use as a spacer in a standard 1" light mount.

I've yet to find a better weaponlight for the price that is designed to withstand the constant recoil, is that compact with integrated mounting solution, and eas of operability.

I have one on Sig P220, and Saiga 308. I'll be putting one on my AR as soon as I get an MOE handguard. Handles the recoil no problem, and bright enough for most work under 50yds. If you're looking to illuminate beyond that, You're probably better off with something else.

You can also get a TLR-3 at LA Policegear for $73.

the switch is better too compared to a Surefire x300, you can momentarily rock the lever downwards, versus pushing the lever forward to activate the Surefire. Both sounds normal until you fire your gun. The recoil will dig the switch back into your thumb if you're using the Surefire switch.

Hmm. I think mine might be right at 100 total.

    G2 - 31.00
    Tapeswitch - 25.00
    Cree 250 lumen 5- mode - 21.99
    Rechargeable 3.7Vs + charger + 2 extra 3.7s - 28.85

It's crazy bright. Both my shotgun light and my AR light have the Cree 250 lumen drop in. Got the 5-mode for the AR so I could use the low lumen mode without melting the head.

It's bright, we did a night shoot and that thing cut through rain and fog out to 200 yards.

If ya don't need one that bright, the TLR-1 is a good choice too.

I'm happy with my Fenix PD30 in a VLTOR mount. The different brightness settings are nice.

How do you pick a light? Based on lumens or CP? If so, what's the minimum?

Well what do you want it for? A home defense light is going to be different than a light for long range coyote shooting.

a TLR-1 or 3 would be a great choice. Simple, light, inexpensive, and more than bright enough for indoor and short range outdoor use.

Forgot to add, this will be on my AR, if that changes anything.
