What are you guys using for lights and mounts on your ARs? I've been putting it off for too long, and I'm finally gonna break down and get one.

I like the standard pistol style weapon light mounted at 10:30 on the rail. I can work the toggle switch with my thumb and the weapon light can work double duty on a pistol too. To me this is the winning setup and I know a thing or two about no light/low light shooting. I use a insight m6x but a m3x or or m3 would work almost as well. I would have no problem recommending a m3 or the streamlight version. LApolicegear.com has the new streamlight led version for a little over $100.

Is a pistol light going to be bright enough for a rifle? If so, what do you think about the Insight Procyon vs. the new TLR1?

Edit: I don't know if bright enough is a good way to put it. I don't know what the hell I'm trying to ask.

Pat Rogers, in a thread over on AR15.com, said that handgun lights are less-than-ideal for rifles (my words, he probably said it very differently).

I don't have any firsthand experience, though.

    I knew i'd seen/heard that before.

  6. I mounted a TK10 to my handguard with a little piece of rail from JP that's designed for their modular handguard. Set the flashlight into a 1" scope ring and attach it to the rail. The light is sturdy and lightweight, and 225 lumens. I have a friend with a Surefire 500a light setup, and my TK10 is way lighter and way brighter. And the battery life kicks the shit out of the 500a.

  7. Can you remember why he said that, or link the thread? I'm interested in reading his thoughts. :)

With a pistol weaponlight (60 - 120 lumens) your good out to 100 yards. If your taking a longer rifle shot in the dark I'm thinking you would be better off with night vision.

i have two dealxtreme lights, one was $25 with pressure pad and the other $45. Hands down the best lights i've ever owned. For the price of these you'd be stupid not to buy one. The smaller one is ~220 lumen and floods. I say it was an applicable range of 50-70 yards. The larger one is also ~220 lumen and throws well over 300 yards. i've used it to light up and shoot hogs well over 150 yards.

I keep meaning to get a tape switch for my pelican and mount it to a sight tower rail on my AR.

Larry Vickers and Kyle E Lamb, both former Delta and two "training circuit" celebrities both run Surefire G2s with upgraded LED bulbs.

Many people see them running the Surefire G2s, and mimic only that, without upgrading the bulbs. This is a mistake.

IIRC, they run CREE LED bulbs from tactical night vision company, which provide 265 lumens and 2 hour run times.

Couple a light weight and inexpensive G2 with a lightweight and inexpensive Viking Tactics light and you have a powerful, lightweight and durable combo.

I agree with the exception of it being a mistake to not upgrade. The plain bulb isn't a led wonder but it does work fine.

Anyone have experience with the GG&G FSB mount? I grip way down at the end of my car handguard and it seems that, for me, would be the ideal place for a light.

I've been looking for the thread and so far no luck, it might have been the "what parts break in a carbine course?" one in the AR section, but I haven't found a specific mention yet.

I'll keep looking; there'll be a link when I find it and probably a quote too.

I have the same one. Strong, never given me any problems, but I'll probably get rid of it. Just a little too big. :)

Picked up a set of Magpul MOE handguards today. Still waiting for my rail to come from Brownells so I can mount a light to one of my AR's.

So I think I'm gonna order a Procyon for my Sig and mount an upgraded G2 on the AR.

Now, best place to order said lights?
