This shit rocks!! I tried WM for the first time on Tuesday. I'm very sensitive to carbs. I took one scoop pre and post workout w/ glutamine and bcaa's. In the past I would use gatoraid and I would get bloated and see a rise in the scale the next day. With WM, I got no bloat, my stomach felt great and there was no weight gain either!! I'm sold and I wish I had tried it a long time ago. I had come to the conclusion that I just would not intake carbs and just whey after workouts, now I have an option. :bigthumb:

I'm so confused. First I hear not to take carbs after a certain time of day. Then I hear that only eat complex carbs during a certain time. I also hear that you're not supposed to eat carbs after working out, then I hear the exact opposite.

It's just so confusing because everything I hear/read from people/websites seems to contradict each other.

I just read up on this Waxy Maize product, and it says that it bypasses the stomach for lighting quick absorbion or something like that... Can you explain what is the main benifit of this? Are carbs a neccessity after a workout? Or should one stay away from carbs after a workout? :dunno:

Waxy maize is awesome.. drink 100g of it in water and you will suddenly be much fuller after 15 minutes.. glycogen is an amazing thing!

You want carbs after a workout to:
    Replenish muscle glycogen
Stimulate insulin which promotes influx of nutrients into muscles

after workout they are very important because you need to refuel your muscles energy supply. without any energy, the muscle cells can't start repairing themselves

I'll make this simple. Do whatever PurEvl says for you to do and you'll be golden. I fucked myself for a bb comp one time because I was listening to 10 different people about my diet. It's good to read, learn and ask questions but it's even better to listen to someone that has not only been there and done that but also helps all kinds of different people with different metabolism's achieve their goals.

Makes sense. But what is the difference between consuming WM instead of eating a slice of white bread after a workout? Aren't they both carbs that can be 'processed' quickly?

yeah... I've read both the nutrition edu as well as the workout routine, and they are definitly both good reads. I just didn't see anything about this Waxy Maize stuff, so I was just curious.

there are many different types of carbs. some replenish the glycogen (energy) in your liver (ie. the sugar in fruit), some go to the muscle (ie. the sugar in WM or gatorade).

also, the rate at which they are digested can very greatly. the simpler the sugar, the faster it gets broken down and digested. typically, the sugars in breads aren't as simple as the sugars found in gatorade or waxy maize.

in the grand scheme of things, its not a huge deal for the average F&N'er so you don't have to really worry about it. Ray isn't your average F&N'er and since he's competing, he's trying to maximize his results.

Honestly, both would work but if you think about digestion, absorbing a liquid will always be faster than digesting and absorbing a solid. Also, you can put more into a shake than you would normally eat.. good for skinny guys with poor appetites.

If you're struggling with diet related things, log a typical week on www.fitday.com

I've been trying to promote that site forever and I'm really happy there are so many "critique my fitday" threads. As a newb, not tracking my food intake was the single worst mistake I made. 99% of people simply have NO idea what they are eating.

i.e. You think are eating well and wonder why you're skinny, but when you track your diet you realise it's only 2000kcal and 100g of protein

The thing is, for people like me, I can just drink 1 or 2 scoops of WM but I would eat a whole box of pop tarts!!:p
