Just got back from a 10 day DET on the Lincoln. I got frocked to E4 while I was out. It's so nice to be home and we don't go back out until early next year :bigthumb:

Before a deployment we go on short detachments so the ship can run drills (the reactor guys get pounded :mamoru: ), pilots get their quals, shit like that. It's comparable to you guys training in the field.

frocked is a cheesy way for navy people to wear their rank ahead of schedule.

i.e. - you get notified you made a certain grade, and they let you wear the rank. in the air force, you get notified but you have to wait for your line number (basically waiting for a spot to open up, since they can only have a certain number of each rank at any given time).

at least this is my understanding of it, as told to me by a naval officer, so if i'm wrong on this call me out.

Considering I'm already getting paid for it, I wouldn't call it a 'cheezy' way to do anything. If you make rank off the test, most do get frocked before they're getting paid for the rank, but what's wrong with that?

i'm sorry, i wasn't trying to insult you at all - congrats on your promotion.

we gave the navy officers shit about it because they don't get paid at the higher rank until their official pin on date.

We deploy on the USS Abraham Lincoln, and it's scheduled for sometime next year as of right now.

I didn't mean to snap at you if I did, but I'm used to the jarheads coming into Navy threads and posting smart ass shit so my guard was up :p
