Looking to get a camera that I can take underwater, for surfing, or snorkelling, etc. etc.

Options i've seen so far are Pentax Optio W20 and the Olympus Stylus 790 SW.

The only concern i've got is i've read a fair amount of reviews for each camera saying that there were water leakages in the battery/card compartment. Are there any other options available?

if the camera is an approved waterproof camera, usually if one leaks, they'll get replaced. Splashproof cameras aren't waterproof and shouldn't be taken underwater.

I agree that you should probably just get a decent p&s camera and find an underwater housing for it. Or the camera bags.
