there was a kid doing dumbbell shrugs and he did them improperly...he didnt "shrug" his shoulders high enough to get to his neck. and he would do half-assed reps by barely going up. while i was next to him doing tri extensions, i said "bring your shoulders up more, *i demostrated*, and try to hold it for 1-2 seconds".
he just looked at like me like "whatever". and walked over to the machine area with his buddy.

was i being a dick to him? i didnt criticize* him or anything, was just trying to help

I never liked people saying shit to me at the gym... but then again, the last person that tried to say somethign to me was a woman telling me good mornings where bad for me..

you weren't a jerk since it was a genuine effort, but most people don't want to be told how to do things at the gym. you never know, maybe he's got some dumb reason why he's doing it wrong.

I'd like to recieve constructive criticism because I'm never good at form. Most people would probably take it the wrong way.

When I first started out, I was doing some things wrong and people would come over and nicely correct me, it really helped me out and I appreciated it, so no you were not being a jerk at all.

The kid was a dick if he brushed you off like that.

If you want to help, instead of just barging in and helping. Tell hi you can show him some moves that might improve his shrugs and leave it at that. Let him ask for you help if he wants to know.

That way your not being the pushy dickhead to him and he knows he isnt being the bothersome to you since you offered.

Clifs: make the offer to help, let him ask for help.

I want to help kids all the time that have lowsy form. But I also know that shit that happened to you, happens a lot. So I don't say anything unless they ask.
