I've been using the computer I have now which is a Dell Dimension 4100. Yes, it's only 1ghz and stacked with 384mb of Ram.

I'm looking for something faster. All I really need is a quiet case, motherboard, CPU that's at least 1.8ghz or maybe faster if possible, and Ram to go with it. If we can cut costs by going with 512 of ram instead of 1gb to save money for a processor much faster then lets do that since I can always upgrade my RAM later on easily.

I already have a DVD Rom drive, Video Card, LAN Card, and Audio Card.

My budget is $300. Is it possible? If so what do you recommend maybe links from newegg. Any help would be nice. I'm pretty good with computers, just not up to date on what is out there.

My Video Card is AGP so I need a mother board that supports at least AGP

That's $293, for a very solid computer that you can upgrade all the way
to a Core 2 Duo, with a pci express 16 slot that you could upgrade to the fastest video card out there.
And in a quality, quiet case that won't look or sound like cheap tin.

I have a video card and dvd burner already. So I don't need on board video or a burner.

Am I going to have any problems with the on board video if I already have an AGP video card?

Also is that case pretty quiet?

Believe it or not, it's a tossup on whether that's any better than the Abit onboard graphics.
But you could get the Celeron cpu, and use the extra bucks to get an entry level pci express card.

You don't want to waste your time staying with agp.

I won't be able to use my dual monitors with the on board video card though.

You could always put a fan on it. They're pretty cheap.

But that's XFX and they know what they're doing. If it was me, I wouldn't worry about it.

And by the way, it will support dual monitors as well.

Hey Emmet... just a heads up. A buddy of mine that also posts here said he ordered one of the NEC DVD drives you recommended here and it's crap. Says there are disc read errors or failure to read at all a lot of the time, even on new or blank media. I think he's returning it, and it might have been just a bad unit, but since NEC mixed with Sony for this and other drives, I'm leary to recommend them.
