So far I have the 18-105 VR and the 50 1.4.

I kind of want to get something wide angle, maybe a 12-24, or a 14-24. Of course, 2.8 is preferable, but which ones are good for the price? I'm not looking to drop too much on it, so the Nikon 12-24 2.8 is out.

Budget is up to about $500.

    Any suggestions?

I was looking at the Tokina 12-24, but this one is only a little more expensive and looks very promising.

11-16 is really sharp, but it's too much like a prime for my liking (too little zoom range), I actually prefer the 12-24 f4, which is center sharp wide open, and sharp corner to corner by f5.6. I can leave the 12-24 on all the time as a general purpose indoor lense, the 11-16 @ 16 is still too wide a lot of the time.

    (For my taste, of course.)

Ignore the bad vignetting I was playing around with the LR3 beta and went overboard. :mamoru:

i have both. i think they are pretty similar

had the 12-24, 2 copies actually. didnt like it. soft as shit at 2.8. f/4 is better.

11-16 2.8 is far sharper all around

i agree about the reach. the 11-16 is major super purpose. the 12-24 could at least be used somewhat generally, but f/4 kills that for indoors.

holy shit that's the first pic you ever posted :eek3:
