I'm quiting my 2nd job just to study for the asvab. I've been out of highschool for 4 years and I really can't remember some of the math. I took the asvab and scored a 54 but I want a retry. I told the recruiter today I wanted to retake it and he told me that he's boss might not let me since I scored higher then a 36 and my score is good enough. I want to atleast get a 70 on it so my options are bigger. So do I have a right to retake it and he's feeding me bs?

He cant tell you you cant retake it. I think you have to wait 6 months or a year, but he cant say you cant.

So should I just be blunt with him and say Look I'm retaking it! I don't mind waiting 30days.

No, that wont get you anywhere. You have to remember that while its his job, its a lot of time and effort to set up the ASVAB for you, take you down to MEPS, etc. Just be polite, and let him know you dont intend to join unless you have a higher score because you dont want a shitty job.

There's waivers for everything so you might not even need to retake the ASVAB to get the MOS you want. If you're set on a specific job just let your recruiter know that way all options are on the table. OH, one last thing....NEVER GO OPEN CONTRACT! EVER!

He didn't do anything to "set-up my asvab". He's not a local recruiter. Went to local recruiter got paper to do asvab and went to local national guard and took the test. Nobody picked me up.

What branch? I know AF isnt taking in every job right now so just see whats open and what score you need

honestly I took the asvab about 10 years ago with no dreams of being in the military, just wanted out of class to be honest. Scored a 97, most of the math is basic math

just very quick problems you can do in your head....

I studied my ass off for the ASVAB and then went to took and nothing i studied was on the test. Granted I still did decent with an 80 my time studying was worthless.

The only ASVAB test I took was in high school when I was 17 and it counted. My parents had already signed the consent forms or whatever they're called though...so maybe that was the difference.

No - what you quoted only applies if you want to retake the test. Lets say you took a high school asvab test and scored 50. You could go down to your local recruiter's office and schedule yourself for an asvab test the very same day if you want to. For retest purposes, only the test scheduled through the recruiter counts as your first try. If you are happy with your high school asvab score, you can use it. It is as valid as any other asvab test. But if you want to retake the test you don't have to count the high school test as your first try.

Call him and tell him what you will and won't do. He is locked in to sales mode and nothing else right now. It is your job to tell him where he stands with you and stick to what you want.

So am I screwed now? Recruiter telling me they won't let me do a retest from fear of me getting a lower score. Then goes on to say it doesn't matter since you might fail a part of the physical and you can't get the job you want.
    What's all in the physical?
    Depth
    Hearing? what else

You have never bought a car from a used car salesman, have you?

You are letting him determine your fate.

Do your preparation. Take the sample tests at www.military.com/asvab until you consistantly score high on the asvab. Once you've done that you can tell your recruiter that he's full of shit. If he wants to administer a sample test in his office you can take that to prove that you won't bomb out on the real one. BUT ONLY DO THAT IF YOU HAVE DONE YOUR PREPARATION.

If you haven't done your own prep, then you deserve whatever you get.

Tell him that you will work on study and the practice tests online, and when you consistantly make scores in the 90% range you will schedule a retest with him. Period. End of story.

    He will say "blah/blag/blay/etc."

To which you will reply, "Roger - I'll call you when I'm ready to retest."
