Wanderlei Silva will now face Michael Bisping at UFC 110

Longtime Pride wrecking machine Wanderlei Silva has a new opponent for UFC 110, as "The Axe Murderer" will now face TUF 3 winner Michael Bisping at the February event. Verbal agreements have been secured from both men, according to a report from Fighters Only.

The report hinted that the fight taking place at a catchweight of 195 lbs. is a possibility, considering that Silva has previously fought at 195 lbs. and wants to work himself down to the middleweight division. Bisping is a middleweight now, who used to fight in the light-heavyweight division, thus making a catchweight bout even more of a possibility.

The Silva vs. Bisping fight will likely headline UFC 110. Silva was originally slated to face Yoshihiro Akiyama in the main event of UFC 110. It is not yet known why that match up was scrapped. UFC President Dana White first hinted following last Saturday's UFC 106 event that the Silva vs. Akiyama fight was abandoned, and would not headline UFC 110.

Silva and Bisping were originally rumored to meet at UFC 105 on Nov. 14, however, Silva had facial plastic surgery to remove scar tissue that had built up around his eyes, and therefore could not accept the fight. Bisping was then matched up against Pride veteran Denis Kang at UFC 105.

Silva (32-10-1) is 1-5 in his last six bouts, which include back-to-back losses against the likes of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and, most recently, Rich Franklin at UFC 99 in June. Prior to those losses, he defeated Keith Jardine at UFC 84 last May. Silva has put together a dismal 2-5 UFC record, as he has suffered other Octagon losses against notables such as Tito Ortiz, Vitor Belfort and Chuck Liddell.

The longtime Pride veteran has been competing professionally for nearly 13 years, scoring notable wins over the likes of Dan Henderson, Kazushi Sakuraba, Ricardo Arona and Quinton Jackson (x2). He has finished 26 of his 32 career wins, including 23 coming by TKO or KO.

Bisping (18-2) is 4-1 in his last five bouts and he most recently scored an impressive second-round TKO win over Denis Kang at UFC 105 on Nov. 14. His lone loss over the stretch came in his previous bout against Dan Henderson at UFC 100 in July. Bisping has put together a solid 8-2 record, with notable Octagon wins over Chris Leben, Eric Schafer and Matt Hamill. His only other loss in the Octagon came against Rashad Evans.

The Cage Rage and Cage Warriors Fighting Championships veteran has finished 16 of his 18 career wins, including 12 by TKO or KO. He holds other notable wins in his five-year career over the likes of Mark Epstein, Alex Cook and Ross Pointon.

Though officially unannounced, UFC 110 is tentatively set for Feb. 21 at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. Other bouts rumored for the event include Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Ben Rothwell, Rich Franklin vs. Keith Jardine and Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski.

God I hope Wandy can pull this one out, I just see Bisping taking it.

    And I'm terrified/excited about Cro Cop/Rothwell

Damnit I was super excited about Silva vs Akiyama (esp. considering it's the first UFC I will get to see live), I totally do not give a fuck about Bisping, and if Bisping beats Wanderlei it will more or less be a nightmare come true.

I think Wandy can take it, I don't see how Bisping has better standup than the other guy's wandy has fought. He definitely doesn't have the power of his previous opponents.

My only worry is, is that bisping will do what he did to chris leben to wandy.

But wandy will have watched that fight and as long as he gets it to the clinch its time to book bispings funeral.

if his boxing fails him, he'll resort to punching, and if that doesn't work, he'll start throwing kicks with this hands

If Wandy doesn't absolutely CRUSH Bisping I feel he's headed down CroCop lane. Maybe not as humiliating but still. With that said, WANDY BY KO
