Right now my background is stuck on a blue screen with a black box in the middle that says "SPYWARE INFECTION". I have cleared any spyware on my comp, but I still can't change the wallpaper. Any ideas?

If you want wallpaper you have to find a picture on the net and right click it and select "Set As Background"

Just so you know that is the blue screen of death.

Just so you know, that's spyware that he has. It changes the users privelages in group policy so they can't change wallpaper.

Last I heard, it was a variant of cool web search that does that.

    Give CW shredder a try.

If that doesn't get rid of it, download "hijack this", run it and post the log here.

Run Ad-aware and Spybot as well.
Just for grins run your antivirus scan...couldn't hurt anything, but time.

That spyware is embedded into explorer itself, we solved my friends issue with a clean install.
    Post your Hijack this log.

I wonder how long it will be before malware programmers figure out how to hide from HijackThis? Nothing's perfect, so it's only a matter of time before even HJT stops being an effective tool.

It happens all the time, then they bring out a new version of HJT.
