I tried searching some, but didnt see a thread on Wall-E yet. You can check out the trailer here. The animation looks great, and I'm hoping it will have some laughs. That shopping cart bit is pretty funny. Anyone else excited for another Pixar hit?

it's an obviousl johnny 5 rip off, these lame cartoon movies are so un original it's pathetic but it'll make a ton of money so people can pop the dvd in and have a 2 hour babysitter for $15 so i can't hate on them too much, why not make easy money by copying a robot from a movie from over a decade ago and putting it in a cartoon

Pixar is, by a very wide margin, the most original movie-making machine working today. Calling the thing a rip-off because there's some similarity is ridiculous.
I have a SSBB profile named "WALLE" that I play when I get ROB, lol.

    "some similarity" lol

look at a picture of wall-e and a picture of johnny 5
they could have at least tried to have come up with an original look instead of animating a short circuit movie robot

they did come up with an original character....i dont remember johnny 5 being a trash compactor....plus "wall-e" isnt running around saying stuff like "need input" besides the major similarity that i see is the "eyes" of each robot

Ingen- Wall-E is due out June 27th.

vudoodoodoo- It's funny you point that out about Eve. There was an interview with the director on Joblo. Check out what the first question was:

Was Wall-E's love interest, Eve, designed to look like an Apple product?
The biggest thing was, what's the sexiest other end of the spectrum? We kept saying, "Wall-E's a tractor, Eve's a Mercedes." So in the world of technology, what's the sleek, most seamless, the-moving-parts-are-hidden kind of technology, so we sort of riffed on anything of that ilk.

Sorry for the double post, just wanted to bump and see if you guys had seen all the little vignette's that Pixar has posted on the YouTube page. They're all pretty funny, and just show how creative and smart the animators are. The magnet one is probably my favorite.

Evidently, we've entered into a new age of robot racism, where all media-invented robots look the same.

I read in an interview that the director came up with the design for Wall-E after looking through a pair of binoculars. Here's what it says about the design on Wikipedia:

Stanton was playing with a pair of binoculars, which looked happy or sad depending on whether they were upside down or not.[9] Stanton felt "you don't need a mouth, you don't need a nose, you get a whole personality just from [the eyes]", which meant the audience would feel "he is [not] just a human in a robot shell". WALL-E's body came from the logic of having his body curl up like a turtle and tank treads that would allow him to overcome any terrain. The director also acknowledged he may have been subconsciously influenced by the film Short Circuit (which he has only seen once).[10]

I still think Wall-E is pretty awesome and I plan on checking it out opening weekend. I'm always pumped when Pixar releases a summer movie.

I was at the SF Wondercon earlier this year and Wall-E had a panel. He mentioned the binoculars. From the clips they showed it looks like this will be another winner for Pixar.

I aggree w/ Vudoodoodoo that Pixar has the Midas Touch.
