So, yesterday evening I go to Wal-mart to pick-up a few boxes of ammo for an upcoming trip to my friend's ranch. I go to the ammo cabinet (wooden frame with chicken wire), and try and flag down someone. 5 minutes pass, and finally someone shows up. Mind you, I am standing in FRONT of the ammo cabinet.

Clerk: How can I help you?
Me: I want to get a few things out of this cabinet
Clerk: OK, what would you like?
Me: I would like to buy a few boxes of ammo
Clerk: Oh, I can't sell you that
    Me: Why?
Clerk: Company policy is to not sell ammunition after 10PM
Me: :ugh: I've came here and bought ammo at midnight before
Clerk: Well, that is company policy, our new manager enforces it, our old manager didn't
    Me: Seriously?
    Clerk: Yes
    Me: Have a good evening!

I walked out, annoyed but figured I would just come back the next day.

7pm rolls around tonight, and decide to go down there to finish what I started yesterday. I get to the ammunition cabinet again, and wait. A few minutes go by, so I go find someone and ask them to send someone over to sporting goods. They get on the intercom and ask for an associate to come help me. I smile, walk back there and wait. Wait some more. What the hell is taking them so long? By this time, I notice the lady I talked to earlier is down the isle from me, she looks up, gives me a stupid looking grin and goes back to work.

I'm getting annoyed now, I start walking toward her, when they fire up the intercom again. I think,"OK time for service". Wrong. I sit there for another 10 minutes, waiting for someone to get there. I said "screw it" out loud as I was walking away, right past the lady that "helped" me earlier. Glared at her as I walked away from the cabinet.

I have never dealt with such awful service in my life. I came in there because I can get cheaper 9mm at Academy, I can get cheaper .22s at Academy, but I can't get cheap .45 in brass cases anywhere but Wal-Mart. $9.27 for 50 at Wal-Mart, vs. $14.50 for 50 at Academy. I want so bad to just never go there again, but I shoot too much to pay that extra 50% for the same product.

Cliffs: Wal-Mart sucks, awful service. DO NOT go to Wal-Mart #2133 at 290/71 and MOPAC in Austin TX for ammo, unless you like being jacked around and then ignored.

I worked in a grocery store once, getting paid just over minimum wage. I cared enough to help people when they asked for it, and if I couldn't help them, I made sure I got them to someone that could.

I can't remember where I heard it, and I'm looking at their corporate site and searching Google and can't seem to find anything.

They usually have the shotgun shells and some of the rifle cartridges out on the shelf, can you take those to the front and buy them after 10?

Well, it is on the other side of town from my office. It's close enough to my house, but I can only get down tehre at night because of work.

The fun show is this weekend, I'll see if there are any deals there. If not, I'll go find a Wal-Mart that knows what customer service is.

I haven't had any unexpected issues at walmart. But I go in the day, generally on weekends. Their "service" is shit, but I expect that. That's why they're cheaper!

Back when I was still under 21 I'd not shave for a couple days and wear my "World's Greatest Dad" t-shirt. Never once got asked for id or if it was for a rifle or pistol.

I have the same problem there with not being helped. They should let you swipe your id with credit card and select which ammo out want

I've taken to waiting a minute at the counter and then walking behind the counter and just getting the ammo for myself and going to to the checkouts.

Do you mean like liqueur stores? In California they sell hard alcohol at grocery stores but I've never once seen them sell it here.

If that had been me I'd have demanded to speak to the manager and if he gave you a run around you can call corporate and bitch up a flame fest.

WalMart has notoriously awful service. I really wish Target sold ammo.

They didn't always have the 10pm thing cause I remember callina buddy of mine at 1030 at night to tell him I was exercising my rights and goign to buy a few hundred rounds of ammo and hit the range (he's a raging liberal)

the past year though they've went off on this 10PM stuff as well as not selling guns at most if not all of them with exception to a few shotguns.
They also don't allow you to carry in their store anymore....

Target doesn't even sell motor oil or fishing tackle - why would they sell something as potentially unpleasant as amunition?

They used to sell both of those back in the day, and by back in the day I mean maybe 8 years ago. Target decided it wanted to try to peg itself to a more upscale market and completely changed it's image.

My mother works for Target so that's why I wish they sold it, I'd get a 10% discount. :wtc:
