I always thought that no matter what state there was some form of wait time for handguns, but some post on some form, which I can't recall since I've been reading so many gun forums lately had me thinking... all states are NOT equal in wait times.... so my question to OTWMD (my home of gun forums I'd say, even though I don't post here often) is, is this chart truthful?

    http://www.bradycampaign.org/facts/issues/?page=waitxstate

So in AZ is there truly no wait time for handguns? So does this mean if I go to my FFL and processed paperwork, pass the background check and then go home and order off of gunbroker.com that as soon as my FFL gets my gun in stock he'll call me and I can come pick it up? If so, this greatly makes my week next week.... (assuming I don't end up dropping my saved money on my car tune up which I am think more and more needs to be done )

tune the car up yourself and save the money for the gun.

It's correct about MS and LA - walk in, fill out the paperwork, walk out.

I walked out with my Glock 19 in about 20 minutes or less.

Wrong. Maybe if you live in Little Cuba or the surrounding areas, but up here in America you can buy any rifle or shotgun and take it home that day. Wait on handguns is 3 days unless you have a cwl.

Utah has zero wait time. Fed check and take it home. No fed check if you have CCW.

There used to be a wait, but when the brady bill expired states allowed to set their own wait time (actually if there was a wait time, even if it was less it was grandfathered it during the bill) so for example in Florida there is a 3 day waiting period unless you have a concealed weapon's permit, in which case you walk in point at the gun, fill out the paper work, call in the background check, give them money and walk out the door, just like buying a long gun. In other states, you don't need the permit and in others still there is a long ass waiting period.

Since your locations says Louisiana, a quick google tells us what you want to know

    WAITING PERIOD
Is there a waiting period on gun sales? No

No state requirement that there be a waiting period for gun sales beyond the "instant check" in federal law. Police are not given any additional time to run a criminal background check to make sure the gun buyer is not prohibited from acquiring firearms. There is no "cooling off" period to help prevent crimes of passion.

and from the brady campaign of all places.

    Before my permit...

weapons with a pistol grip was a 3 business day wait...

Long guns without a pistol grip I could take home the same day.

I have a couple of buddies that I go to school with and are from there. I couldn't believe it the first time they told me how long they have to wait. It's ridiculous.

That's assuming you have to fill out the form, when I bought my 10/22 the owner filled out most the form and just handed it to me for the relevant bits.

Hell, he spent more time on the phone cracking jokes with some guy from the BATFE then he did actually doing my background check. That was the first time I ever bought anything from that store too.

Granted I gave them a ton of identification, they even made me go get a temporary state ID card (I'm not a Texas resident) from the DPS down the road, but I didn't really care (DPS never sent me my real ID card :squint:).

Wrong, 3 day waiting period without a permit for handguns, no such thing as a 5 day waiting period on any count.

I accept you challenge and within the last year once without even having a permit and once without showing it, I have bought an Romanian AK-47 in Jacksonville and a Savage .22 LR in Live Oak maybe I will pick up something at the gun show this weekend, probably not since I kind have my eye on some custom laser engraving for an AR.

For any and all clarification I refer you to Florida Statute 709.0655 "Purchase and delivery of handguns; mandatory waiting period; exceptions; penalties."

    http://www.flsenate.gov/Statutes/in...&Title=->2006->Ch0790->Section 0655#0790.0655

    or if you rather

    http://www.nraila.org/statelawpdfs/FLSL.pdf

or still if you rather the evil brady campaign.

    http://www.bradycampaign.org/legislation/state/viewstate.php?st=fl

All three clearly agree that handguns have a statewide waiting period of 5 days and all three give no reference to a waiting period on long guns, only the Brady Campaign mentions that a county can impose a 5 day waiting period on all gun transfers if they so desire. So you apparently live in one of those counties, however if you need a gun today drive to the next county over.
