just thought I'd share.. I"m excited..

now I know you fanboys are hanging around here.. give up any newbie pointers and tips you've got. I went with redhat for my first venture and I'm only about an hour after install and just poking my way around here..

What are your goals in running Linux? Exploring something new, wanting to run it as a server, thinking of using it as a desktop, just for kicks...

:bigthumb: I have Mandrake 8.2 ready to install on my old laptop, as soon as I get around to formatting both partitions, since I need to install Linux from one onto the other, since the CD-ROM is broke.

    All of the above...

    But seriously
-- This installation is purely for poking around and exploring. I figure it's high time I experienced something other than the old familiar Microsoft environment

-- I have heard that a lot of ppl like running Linux on their servers, and as i just stumbled across a server for free (yay me) of course I'll need an operating system for it, so I might just try linux on that machine also

-- if it really grows on me then the linux may just migrate itself over to the rest of my desktops and laptop.. :dunno:

But, for the immediate, i'm just looking around to see what I can do with it..

Well have fun with it. If you want an easy way to administer services on your server, check out www.webmin.com . It's an amazing tool for the learning sys admin. ;)
