Well i bought it because i would like to get more into wildlife and just in case i need to do some detective work.. hah kidding about the detective work.

here's a camera phone pic that i sent to my girlfriend, who thinks I'm dumb for spending that much on a lens... Like it was pricy when you compare it to other lenses in this range.

you'll have to forgive my unfinished counters and my messy kitchen.

linked because its a bigger pic. I'm too lazy to resize.

Its bigger than it looks in the picture even.. and weighs 67oz (4.18750lb)

My 2X teleconverter is interesting too... virtually useless at full zoom without a steady ass tripod (which apparently i dont have..), and a remote release.

That's so fucking cheap for a 500mm lens.
    A Nikon 500mm f/4 costs $6,000, Canon 500mm f/4 IS costs $5,500.
Though the Sigma has a smaller aperture, a less-responsive autofocus mechanism and lacks Image Stabilisation, it's still up to 6 times cheaper than its counterparts.

No, actually I only paid 750 for it new through a friend of mine. Thats one of the reasons i decided to buy this.

I got it last night so it was dark and I just woke up 15 minutes ago so I'll get some better pics for you today, but here are a few from last night. I had to play around with it, but there's nothing spectacular about these. From what i was playing with last night I am more than impressed with it. The only thing that i dont think I LOVE about it is the weight... but you'll find that with any big lens really.

none of these are processed. Just resized.

Granted, I've never used either of those 500mm lenses but the Sigma seems pretty quick (as in MUCH faster than my 70-300) especially in low light, and REALLY quiet for the af. Image stabilization would be fucking awesome but what can you say... I was actually expecting it to be much slower than it was especially at the low light i was taking pics at. I only had one lamp on in my house, and i took some pics just up and down my street (from my driveway haha) and it focused pretty fast all the way through the zoom range.

One of my neighbors got in his car and drove down to my house from the end of my street and asked me to stop being a peeping tom... haha. I wasn't even taking pictures though!

    just looking. haha j/k :ugh:

Any teleconverter used on that lens will render it manual focus-only.

They arent soft, its just that i was hand holding it in very low light.. The moon shot was on a tripod.

no, it is noticeably softer zoomed in than it was at 50mm on the moon shot.
That's what I was referring to: the moon shot.

still, for a cheap 500mm lens that's not bad at all, especially considering what a giant hunk of crap sigmas 28-300 (my experience with their megazooms has been bad) was.

The moon shots are the same picture, one is just cropped so you can see the moon better. They were both taken at full zoom.
