Vw Tdi

Discussion in 'OT Driven' started by pontiac_bandit78, Sep 11, 2003.

  1. anyone have any opinions about a golf tdi. I'm seriously thinking of buying one. I drive about 50,000 miles on the highway every year, I think the fuel savings alone would be worth while.

Get one, then upsolute chip it.

    End of story.

  3. I was looking for opinions more along the lines of reliability.

honestly, it's probably the most reliable VW that they make

  5. Thats what I thought too, I just get a bit scared of reading forums like the ones at www.myvwlemon.com but really what car doesnt have a group of people who hate them, I have seen more good things about the TDI then bad.

Most reliable VW engine. End of story....well maybe the 68hp TD (no "i" ) will last longer, but both are gonna get you into the 400 000+ miles area if you take care of it.

  8. Thats a great site, thanks never heard of it before, seems to have more honest opinions and most are very good.

    glad to help man :bigthumb:

honestly with a few hundred bucks in mods a TDi will be hauling ass probably faster than a 1.8T, all while getting 30-40mpg :o

Great engine, will last forever and has the best mileage vw ever offered. A buddy of mine has a 250 lbs of torque from a chip alone.

  11. Wow, I bought the car today, I think I'm gonna like it. Where can I buy a chip like that?

    upsolute

    and wett

are the two most popular chips for the TDi. enjoy man, congrats! and pics?! :)

  13. Thanks for the links. Pics will come in time.

  14. I work for a VW/Porsche dealer. I can honestly say the TDi is the most reliable engine VW has. The VR6 is awful, and the 1.8 Turbo is a joke. Great engines when they're running, but they break way too often. The TDi is fast and fun to drive, with the reliability thrown in.

I'd buy one. As soon as they make a Passat TDi 4Motion.

    :)

It's sad that this engine doesn't get the deserved credit. Love every minute of driving mine.

But I'm forced to sell it :(

I think this has something to say about this engine. BTW: I think this is the new motor that will go in the 2004 Passat TDI.

  17. I'm loving this car so far, enough power for me and incredible fuel mileage.

wasnt the tdi like the fastest car 0-30 or something like that because of the loads of torque? get one

  19. Its pretty slow 0-30 I think it has lots more power when you hit second gear.

How ya figure? Besides hoses, coilpacks, ignition amplifiers, turbos, wastegates, piping, clamps, and bpv's, nothing ever breaks on 1.8T's.
