I am on shared right now, but thinking in a few months my site might have too much traffic for it. Whats the difference between VPS and shared? Would VPS allow more traffic/resources to be used on my site?

    Whats the difference?

virtual private server is a virtual server carved out of a larger server. It is still "shared" hosting but allows the isp to better control resources and also allows you your virtual box with root OS access.
The progress is exactly that, shared to vps to dedicated.

Basically what maxxpower said. To extend on it, think of a VPS as a shared host, but the flexibility of a dedicated server.
