I don't see how 1 or 5 really relates to health. Even though they are good pics.

2 is the best idea i think, not the best picture, and its kinda pelfed, but I voted for it anyways.

I think the entry period lasts way too long. If you want to get in on it, get in. You don't need a month to get it done. Or however long it took. Especially considering the number and quality of the last few themes' entries.

i think the limit should be at most, a week. and we should post them up for voting immediately after. i know intheworks is busy, maybe he needs help.

i agree, 2 weeks is to long.

Should be like every 10 days max.

and we need to the new theme as soon as the vote for the current one goes up!!

I liked and voted for 5 because the rest just seemed way too set up. Health = sports = bball, I see the connection. Plus it looked like the ball hadn't been used with the mud\dirt so maybe he was saying the abscence of health?

Just kind of passing through and noticed this little set up here. I have to agree with the others that this was kind of weak and the periods to do it in are too long. I'm not sure if the topic was too vague or people just didn't care to work with it. I'm not sure how the topics are usually chosen but from what I've seen from this one they're just assigned. I think a vote for the next period's topic should be put up in each assignment thread so people can have some foresight into the things they might be shooting for next time and to insure it's a topic people will go out and shoot for. Just my thoughts.

or we could offer several topics at once, maybe 2-3 different ones. (like Dpchallenge.com)

i love the scale concept, but the carpet kills it for me.

i used to run a photoshop battle on a forum. we did assignments due every sunday at midnight, voting was up monday morning in the next assignment thread, and the voting poll closed wednesday at midnight. :dunno:

    it was nice having exacts.

i think really whats lacking in this format is the time disparity between one assignment to voting to the next assignment; not because its too much time but because theres too much uncertainty. also, you have to goto the assignment thread, then find the voting thread, then goto a link to see the images, then go back to the voting thread, then remember which one you liked.

one last killer bit is, keep the images in the thread, this is the art and photography forum, but the photography contest thread is nothing but text. if the issue is size, have everyone submit their entry as 1000px (or whatever it currently is) and also one in 400px, then post the small one in the thread which hotlinks to the big one. this way each can be easily numbered and viewed, and the thread will be interesting to come back to and discuss.

i'd really like to enter these on a regular basis but its really just too much effort to have to keep checking back for the next assignment etc. exact dates and consistency are paramount.

It's funny to me that some of you bitch about this....

The quality isn't there because no one participated. Time, scheduling and difficulty of clicking on links are a distant second.

We're all supposed to be competitive OT photographers here, yet none of you fuckers can shoot ONE shot related to 'health'...

The quality of the contest is only as good as the quality of the entries.

The person who took the picture that ends up in last place > anyone here who didn't enter.

funny you say that, perhaps you can point me to the thread for the next assignment.

by fixing just the format of the ps battles it went from having 2-3 entries whenever there one an assignment to 10-15 weekly.

im not trying to be a dickhead, and im not being negative in any way towards the entrants. i am, however, commenting on the format. the suggestions i gave worked very well in my experience and require only a marginal amount of extra effort added to work done by intheworks.

I wasn't specifically replying to your thread. I was replying to the people who were bitching about the quality of the entries or the difficulty of the topic.

I'm all for suggestions on how to improve things like this. I think your ideas were good ones.

What I will not accept are people bagging on the folks that did bother do submit an entry, when they failed so miserably that they didn't even bother attempting.
