    poll coming.

so ive narrowed my search down to these lenses.

your job is simple: vote for which one i should get, and try to post a reason why.

if you do not think i should get any of these, tell me what i should get along with the reasoning. if this is the case, im looking for a fairly good ranged zoom lens. i'd like it to be under $500 if possible.

thanks for the help (hopefully :hsd: )

I have the 28-105 and I love it. For the price it's fucking amazing. If you get it, just make sure you don't accidentally get the f/4-5.6

I've pretty much heard nothing but complaints about the 28-135, so you should probably stay away.

The other two, I don't know anything about, so :dunno:

It mainly depends on how wide you want to be vs how long you want to be. Also, what other lenses do you have?

what about the tamron 15-50 f/2.8 and or tamron 28-75 f/2.8?

out of those, canon 17-85. the 28-135 is a piece of crap

I've seen just fine pictures from them, but read a lot of bad reviews about build quality and softness.

    None of the above.

Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 if you don't need the extra reach.

For $330 new, $250-270 used, it's a hell of a bargain. It's not quite wide enough on a 1.6x body, imo, but for those who have something wider or don't need the wide angle, it's a good lens.

im thinking that that it will be between the tamron 28-75mm and the canon 28-105mm. i dont think i'll have to shoot wider than 28, and if i do i'll cross that bridge when i get to it.

the tamron beats the canon hands down, but you'll lose a bit on the long end, but eventually you'll get a tele lens that will be better than it at the cooresponding lengths anyway

thats pretty much the conclusion i came to. i figure if i need to to shoot wider/longer i can purchase whatever lens i need later on.

Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 it is! :coold:

I have a Canon 28-135mm for sale if you're interested. I'll even throw in a Heliopan UV filter :)

i just got mines last week from adorama.com with rebate. very happy.. its almost as sharp as the 50mm 1.8, but with more flexibility. the other lens i was looking into for 'replacing' the kit lens was the 17-40, but went with the tamron instead since i zoom in on subjects more often than landscape & scenery shots. the 17-40 will most likely be my next one.

edit: i dont know what to do with my kit lens now.. where could i sell it?

Just keep the lens so when you sell the body, you can include it. Is it worth the hassle selling the lens for $50?
