If you're not running 2.0 then you are FTL.

It'll run your boot camp partition at the same time while running OSX and it can even turn your boot camp into a vm and wipe out the boot camp partition.

The previous version did that too. 2.0 does add some nice features like multiple snapshots and better graphics support.

I've been running my boot camp partition as a VM for a long time now, but I may take advantage of the feature to convert it and kill the BC partition. I just never use boot camp anymore.

I run Win XP off a bootcamp partition. It gives you more flexibility since you can boot in Windows when necessary for a game or such.

VMWare 2.0 has added support for DirectX 9 and can play many games now.

I haven't really tried that out yet; still, it's nice to have the option of booting up natively into Windows.

I like the performance of Dx9 now

Is it decent? I haven't tried installing any games at this point. Need to order a dedicated testing PC for work this week so I won't likely try it.

I'm running Vista 64 and have 4gb of ram in my imac, but vista only shows 1gb....why is that and how can i change it?

With the Virtual Machine shut down, select it and click settings. Then under memory you can allocate more memory. Stick to 2GB or so.

cliffs on how to turn my bootcamp partition into a vm, and if i do that can i still access all my stuff from windows and/or osx?

Yes. So set the amount you want to allow the guest OS use. At the most you can allow Windows to use 3/4 of your total RAM but I'd still recommend 1/2 if you want to keep the Mac OS usable while you're running it.

Select the option to create a new virtual machine and then select the option for from a Boot Camp volume.

Is it possible to run Aero in a Vista VM?

I don't believe that Fusion supports Aero.

If you can do everything you want to do fine using the VM then you probably aren't missing anything. But to get the highest possible performance with games and to do some lower level stuff that needs direct hardware access, you might want it.

Has it really? Only Fusion, or all flavors of VMware 2.0? I gotta look into this.

I also gotta get a computer capable of running multiple VMs at once. :wtc:

It's actually pretty limited now that I've had a chance to use it. Very few games are supported.

whats a good memory ratio for this? I have 4 gigs.

im trying to run fallout 3 and either the game takes forever to load up or my main window is slow as hell.

i don't know. i don't think current games would work well in a VM. i could be wrong, but it just seems like the overhead would be too much with a virtualized video interface.

probably better off with boot camp in that situation.
