Whats with all the hype? :dunno:

is it really worth that much money instead of buying an upper receiver and free float rail system separately for a few hundred less?

    educate me :wavey:

It's really light and it's very strong and the first ones were salt brazed - which is cool.

Like considerably lighter than a normal upper + rail setup? I would have always thought it would have been heavier, but if it's a lighweight setup than thats cool.

Well, there's no barrel nut/delta ring or weld spring. I think it's like a pound or so after that's all said and done.

Well if you go with a 18" I would go with something up to but not over the gas block and definately go with a rifle lenght gas system barrel. Of course as everyone knows I'm not a fan of the quad rail as it's heavy and uncomfortable, then you put rail covers and it's just all kind of what I consider stupid. I like the vltor/jp handguard and the pri carbon fiber handguard. The pri is $$$ though but it is the lightest.

yeah, that is a good point about buying some huge fucking rail then only putting covers on it.

i think the only thing that would go on my rail is a bipod and maybe a sling.

i'll look into the JP handguards.

any suggestions on good barrels i can look at?

Well I like to go over the gasblock on the mid lenght or the carbine lenght because you get more fore end. With the rifle lenght gas system if you go over the gas block it's just a whole lotta fore end. I just don't think you need that much.

If you ask me I would just get that whole jp barrel kit (+ handguard). the barrel, gas block, comp and handguard. Go 8 twist rifle, light weight (which is really a medium weight).

i wasnt planning on ordering direct from JP (since the manufacturer is usually the most expensive); i was just curious if thats what i would want to get with an 18" barrel and rifle length gas system
