Ok most likely Microsoft Vista will be the new hotness, I honestly have nothing to ask for Christmas that's why if Vista will be brought out in the shops, i out of pure despair(because i already have everything) might consider buying it. But will it be worth it? :dunno: anyone else waiting for its release? They said it would be before christmas, but it would be a close call to say the least.

I'm quite happy with Linux, GNOME, Firefox, beagle, amaroK, k3b, etc...

Don't think I'll be making the purchase :)

It has the Server 2003 kernel. It can never be as bad as ME.

XP has the Server 2003 kernel too. The only thing that's different is that some constants are set differently prior to compilation. There are plenty of instructions online about how to tweak XP DLL file to turn on Windows Server features.

At this point, the only useful feature that Vista has is a prettier, scalable interface, and that's only useful if you have a huge hi-res screen and poor eyesight.

How does XP have the Server 2003 kernel when its older than 2003? They're very similar but Server 2003's kernel is updated from XP's and Vista is based on that.

They were talking about whether they'll upgrade, I ain't upgrading 'cause I, just like some of them it seems, am perfectly happy with what I have.

Is that ok? Should I ask for a permission slip for my next post?

So windows XP that was released in the last quarter of 1999 has the Kernal from Server 2003?

The two are similar but there are still MAJOR differences between the two.

Knowing the scope of these two products I'm sure you will find that compiling a server 2003 kernal and compiling a Windows XP kernal would take a lot more then changing a few constants...

    He's contributing an opinion (obviously).

I believe it's mid December for the corperate sector and the first quarter of 2007 for private and small business use...
