Vista not compatible with some external HD's

    so i have tried to use two different external hard drives that my friends own on my computer (with Vista) and my comp will either not recognize that I plugged one into my computer, or will freeze up while i am trying to access some of the data on the external drives? anyone else run into this problem?

    First let me say, this is not a Vista issue.

    If anything, VIsta has more drivers built in than XP does.

    Did the drives have their own adaptor, or were they powered from your computer?

    Were they usb? Firewire? eSata?
