Been looking at some info on firewalls and can't come to a conclusion on what is best to get..

Some sites say the vista firewall is as good as some of the others, but is harder to configure. Some say ZoneAlarm is the way to go, some say Comodo is the best (not sure if it's vista friendly) and the Zonealarm doesn't have all the features working for vista yet.

What are your thoughts? (other than switch back to xp) I lost my CD keys for xp so not switching back :p

    vista firewall > xp firewall

you'll get better outbound protection with 3rd party firewalls

for most people, windows firewall + router is more than enough

use windows firewall and a gateway that has NAT and SPI.

The consumer-grade software firewalls are crap.

I agree with the above posts. As far a free firewalls for Vista are concerned, there's nothing out there. People have had a crapload of issues with all the free Vista firewalls, including ZoneAlarm and Comodo. I installed Comodo on my computer, but it caused issues with Windows Update and other things. I uninstalled Comodo because it just wasn't worth the hassle.

The best firewall is a hardware firewall. Check out the firewall + router units on Newegg. Better to buy one good one for all your machines than to use several cheap ones for free.
