I am hoping to reformat my computer later today, and once I get all the bullshit back to a clean state, i intend to delete all the programs I don't want, defrag it and then install/buy a virus program. my question to all of you fine people is which one do you prefer? i know it basically depends on each person/paranoia so to speak, but what would you recommend as the "best" virus program for performance and price. my norton 2004(or it might have been '03) would search EVERYTHING that i opened, etc, and it would freeze up my computer for a second and then continue after it was done searching it.

also, spyware/adware, etc. is it really that big of an issue? is it really installed in a LOT of programs.... if so, what would you recommend I download to protect myself from that crap?

sorry this is so long, i just wanna get this computer running clean and fast again.

Cliffs: looking for best virus program and an adware/spyware program for a decent price

    AVG (antivirus guard)
    Microsoft Anti-Spyware

Atleast that's been my setup for almost a year now and havent had a single popup warning of any kind of spyware/virus infections.

    AVG + Spybot S&D = $0

My current setup. As such, I have 0 viruses and 0 spyware.

Dot. But add Firefox to the anti-spyware group.
